Fridays are special days around here. New songs drop most weeks, and listeners get a glimpse into the creative energy and process that the artists have been pouring their hearts into for the past weeks and months. This one is extra poignant, because our Friday release this week is the first album by a singer-songwriter who is showing us all what she's been up to with her entire life up to this point.

Elena Serene is a teen who not only writes songs about grown-up subject matters (Left Out in the Rain), but makes fun of herself for doing it (True Story). There's pop-soul hits, dreamy ballads, and gospel-tinged Americana. And it's all wrapped in a production that puts a modern spin on radio-friendly 70s classics.

Elena is accompanied here by her dad, Bo Magnie (bass, guitar, percussion, backing vocals), her mom Lauren Jones Magnie (vocals, percussion), her brother Otis (drums), and her grandfather John (organ, piano). It's a real family effort.
